Abstract
This article examines the discursive construction of a sense of community within hashtag communities on Twitter, using a case study of tweets containing the hashtag ‘#Kpop’. Hashtags enable users to form loosely connected communities with others who share the same interests, whilst establishing relevance to specific topics and enhancing the searchability of online content. By analysing tweets with the ‘#Kpop’ hashtag, this study investigates the formation of hashtag communities. K-pop fans have utilised Twitter as a primary platform for communication, affinity building, and active participation in a range of social, cultural, and political activities. Therefore, this article explores how ‘#Kpop’ integrates heterogeneous voices, ultimately forming a hashtag community. By doing so, this research aims to provide insights into hashtag communities and the dynamics of online discourse facilitated by the ‘#Kpop’ hashtag.
