Howard, Keith, ed. (2006) Music and Ritual. Den Haag: Semar. (Musiké. Year 1, no. 1)
Abstract
Papers selected from panel contributions to the 2005 conference of the British Association for Korean Studies, linking to the theme of research within the AHRC Research Centre for Cross-Cultural Music and Dance Performance. 'Music, dance and ritual' might be a better title, since music and dance occur together in most cultures of the world. Discussions are given of shamanism in Nepal and Siberia, Chinese Confucian dance and music in South African healing, square dancing in Manitoba, dancing in Bali, vocal polyphony in Portuguese agriculture, ancient Chinese ensemble music in Xi'an, VCDs of ritual events in Morocco, and body percussion in Aceh. With CD.
