Abstract

The size, structure and rate of change of any country’s population have critical economic implications. This universal generalization has special relevance to developing countries, in which population growth is likely to be quite rapid. Above all, it has very particular meaning for that very small number of developing countries with huge populations, such as India, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, Nigeria – and of course China.
