Abstract
In this paper, following a brief introduction on Gramsci’s thought and its applicability to social, historical and geographical scenarios, altogether different from the milieu in which it originated, I will touch upon the evolution and development of Gramscian studies which have moved from the national scene to an international arena. The work of Giorgio Baratta, in this sense, offers an enlightening example of continual osmosis from the ‘particular’ to the ‘universal’, or from the regional to the global, as well testified by the motto of the Association Terra Gramsci, founded by him during his last years of activity: ‘‘From Sardinia to the World, from the World to Sardinia’’.
