Abstract
Low carbon development addresses the interface between climate change mitigation and development. However, for people and communities affected by climate change, adapting to climatic impacts is crucial. It is therefore necessary to consider mitigation, adaptation and development as interlinked challenges that have to be addressed together, rather than addressing them as separate challenges. This chapter therefore introduces the concept of climate compatible development, which brings together mitigation, adaptation and development, and offers opportunities for producing ‘triple wins’ to deliver lower emissions development that is resilient to current and future climatic impacts.
