Abstract
This is a set of household surveys I commissioned, from commercial market research companies and (for Indonesia and Egypt) from universities. I have also commissioned a similar survey of urban and rural households in Chad in 2008, and I intend to commission a further survey in Africa during 2009, and surveys in more countries in future. Topics covered in the questionnaire include time use; ‘household allocative systems’; earnings; household and individual spending; domestic violence, and attitudes to such violence; and gender-role attitudes. In the near future, I hope to obtain a big grant to expand the WAS survey to over a hundred less-developed countries. For more details of this survey, see my website www.was-survey.org
