Rettová, Alena (2013) Chanter l'existence : La poésie de Sando Marteau et ses horizons philosophiques. Středokluky: Zdeněk Susa.
Abstract
Sando Marteau is a musician, who lives and works in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo. He is one of the rare Congolese poets using the Swahili language to express his art. Full of melancholy, his songs evoke the suffering and difficulties of the Congolese society, but they describe as well the general situation of the human being in the world. The present publication provides an introduction to Sando Marteau's work in diverse intellectual contexts: Swahili literature, philosophy, in particular African philosophy, and Congolese music. The author explores the philosophical dimension of Sando Marteau's lyrics, which it calls "implicit existentialism". In addition, the book examines the possibility to use musical performance to express philosophical ideas as well as the general question of genre and its role in the expression of philosophy.
