Abstract
Following the Arab conquest of Iran the state religion of Zoroastrianism was dismantled to make way for Islam. Yet Iran managed to retain its Persian language and distinctive Iranian identity under Muslim governance. The reason for this is discussed by eminent scholars in this book which covers the whole spectrum of life in early Islamic Iran.
