Abstract
Harun al-Rashid has a powerful presence in the Medieval Arabic Literary Imaginary. This chapter explores the imaginings of the character, entourage and rule of Harun al-Rashid in medieval Arabic storytelling and adab works and examines the role this body of stories and anecdotes interrogates political authority in pre-modern times.
