Abstract

An exploration of the music recording industry in Korea, challenging IFPI statements about the state of the industry today. Beginning with the early 20th century, the article charts the industry as it developed, redeveloped, was controlled, expanded, then shifted towards media entertainment companies, using John Lie's modes of exchange theory to explore the people who have owned, controlled, and mediated the industry.
