Abstract
Examines the law and practice of international arbitration in states from the West African sub-region as it relates to arbitration laws; arbitration agreements; role of arbitrators; enforcement and challenge of arbitral awards; applicable time limits; mandatory requirements under the various regimes and peculiar features of some of the laws which foreign participants need to be aware of. The chapter discusses notable court decisions on international arbitration from Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia, and Liberia. It finally examined the arbitration rules of the following arbitral institutions in the sub-region: Ghana Arbitration Centre; the Lagos Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration; the Court of Arbitration of Cote d'Ivoire.
